Inverno, from a Fabian family, one of the oldest Scottish families. From earliest times it possessed many lands in the county of Inverness, and in the province of Pavia and boasts of some marshals, standard bearers, magistrates and captains; some died as heroes and martyrs. The county of Inverness which has about 23,000 inhabitants was given in the 12th Century to a gentleman who had become a Christian named Antonius Domenicus related to the barons Rossi of Melfa, the baron Angelis and the counts of Altavilla. Settling down in a district in the province of Pavia, he named it Inverno. These families were scattered throughout the provinces of Benevento, Caserta, Campobasso and Pavia. Some emigrated abroad. The first born of this branch bear the title for life and the county is sacred and privileged. At present Guiseppe, Giovanni and Luigi d'Inverno.
