Dr. Ali Tavassoli    
 

Ali is a Reader in chemical biology, jointly appointed at the School of Chemistry and the Cancer Sciences division of the Faculty of Medicine. He is the recipient of a Career Establishment Award from Cancer Research UK, and the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences' medal for European Young Chemist.

Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Stephen Benkovic’s laboratory at Penn State University. Whilst in the States he worked on a variety of projects, developing several new technologies and methodologies.

 
 

Ali started his scientific career studying Chemistry at the University of Bristol. After obtaining his Ph.D. from Prof. Joe Sweeney’s group at Reading University, he joined Prof. Douglas Young at the University of Sussex as a postdoctoral fellow, studying the mechanism of Homocitrate Synthase.

Ali is a member of the American Chemical Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry. He is also on the Bio-Organic Steering Committee of the RSC.
